Exchange Handbook

The Exchange Handbook launched successfully at the start of June 2001, on time and on budget. With over 1200 seperate articles, all of which need updating on a regular basis, it's a classic example of a product better suited to the web than the printed page.

Key to the project's success was the very clear data model behind both the existing printed product and the online version. The print production process was already using XML and everyone involved in the project was well versed in the benefits and problems that working with data and not pages can bring.

The project also benefitted from a comprehensive brief and clear aim - to create a paid-for online version of an existing product.

The site is driven using a combination of a bespoke XML model used to publish the print publication and our standard Article Manager database system.

The site also has nearly 1,000 subscribers to the Exchange News Direct news service - around 5,000 mails every day.
